If you're like us and you don't have the time or inclination to take a full Statue of Liberty tour, then the Staten Island Ferry is a great alternative. It's free, it floats right by the famed statue, and it runs 24 hours a day. Taking the ferry allowed us a brief exchange of the hustle and bustle (and smells) of Manhattan for the calm sea breeze (and smell) of New York Harbour.

We've heard there are replicas of the statue located all over the world. We've been surprised to see them in Paris, Tokyo, and Las Vegas (okay, not as surprising). Have you spotted any?

  1. When I was growing up we used to drive to Staten Island, park the car and take the ferry to Manhattan. Much cheaper parking :-) I've got a real soft spot for that ferry.

  2. We did the Staten Island Ferry route for the Satute of Liberty as well and really enjoyed it. Looks like you had much better weather! I have seen the replicas in Paris and Las Vegas. Can't think of where else.

  7. The Gourmet Traveller Thanks! Well, we were in New York... so, we did some shopping. Alex is obsessed with Uniqlo (and ties) and picked up a bunch there.

We live in Okinawa, a small Japanese island with a strong US military history. There are all kinds of Statue of Liberties here! I'm always a little surprised to see her!
