val-des-lacs

1.24.2013

One morning, we drove from Montreal to Val-des-Lacs on a wintery Quebec day. We attempted to ice fish, learned some survival skills (I've determined that I'd last 5 minutes, tops, in the wild), and went snow shoeing through a Narnia-like forest. - Mina

Having just moved from Orlando back to Chicago, I've had a love-hate relationship with winter this year. Your gorgeous pictures however makes me glad that I do live somewhere that has snow!

Well, I am sick and tired of praising you guys! I myself is a very passionate photographer, and if I come across someone who's marvelously good, I do turn green with envy. However, as far as you guys are concerned, I am filled with awe and appreciation, and also respect.

I am glad I came across this blog!

These photos really show the beauty of a cold and snowy winters day. I would love to be able to have this experience at least once in my lifetime. Like someone mentioned above your photos should really be in a magazine.

It looks gorgeous but right now there still is a lot of snow here and I'm actually more into the warm weather! Really looking forward to summer..

Ahh! Those look like some seriously amazing memories! Wow. The bison are pretty cool, I have to admit. I've only ever seen stuffed ones; not even the zoos I have visited have had them! It looks chilly; I hope that you were both bundled up enough. Also, I love that you hiked around in snowshoes. That reminds me...back when I was in high school (it was senior year), we got a lot of snow. 16 inches in one day or something. Anyway, school was absolutely canceled. And my boyfriend at the time was originally from Alaska, so his family really did have snowshoes. My boyfriend lived about five blocks away, so when it was cold and snowy and school was out, he strapped on the showshoes and hiked to my house so we could still spend the day together. :)

Gorgeous post! I'm inspired by this post because I always travel/live/dream about the mountains/forests/outdoors.

Wow Mina, these photos are amazing! You two sure live the life. I thought ice fishing only happened in cartoons, ha ha. What fun! xo

Did the seeing bison make you miss Manitoba?

Space astronomy said...

"Seeing the" bison, rather.

mina said...

Space Astronomy - I miss Winnipeg for other reasons. The only time I saw Bison IRL was at the zoo.

Oh to be at the snow and ice fishing. At least I can go beach fishing from the sunny Summery beach across the road from my house. Our lives are worlds apart but I feel like an old friend stopping in to see these images. I love your pictures and am thankful that you've shared them with us. Gorgeous blog. So thankful to have stumbled across it, I'm your newest follower :)

thanks

Oceans of Light - They are flying squirrels! We got to see them "fly" from one tree to another... they kind of looked like bats.

You guys are so cute! Where us this Cabin? can it be rented?

mina said...

rivkawe - haha, thanks. it's not a home, so i don't think you'd want to rent it. it's one large room with a furnace where we sat and shared bannock and tea.
