california coast

There's an often misattributed/incorrect Mark Twain quote that goes: "The coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco". If you've lived in SF, or even mentioned visiting, you've probably heard it. I've been guilty blathering on about the weather before, so I'll just say that after enduring the coldest Canadian winters for a large portion of my life, I could never complain.

For the most part, our travels have been dictated by trying to follow the sun. Now that we live in California, and just need to take a short drive south on a gloomy day, it's changed how we think of travel. I almost don't want to leave.

These photos are from an afternoon when we just needed a little Vitamin D. Since we didn't find it in Pacifica, we headed a little further and found a bench overlooking the ocean. I'm grateful to whoever decided to put that lonely bench there. We sat for awhile, explored the coastline, shook the sand out of our shoes, and headed home. - Mina

  4. This is one of my top favorites of your posts since I subscribed in the past year, probably because you somehow conveyed the actual experience of Northern California beaches, and my mood when I used to hang out there, don't know how. But here in snowy NY I experienced a real pang and longing for one of my favorite areas of the world.

Could you please tell me where exactly this spot was? By the bench, I can tell this may be the place that I've been looking for. Could you please give me coordinates or at least the city this is by? Thank you so much.

    Hi Mina,

I found it! Thanks to the clues you had posted (close to, South of, and not too far from -- Pacifica).

It's on Bean Hollow Beach. Below are the exact coordinates. Absolutely amazing spot.

    1. I'm glad you were able to find it! Thanks for coming back and sharing these links. I know it's old news but how crazy is it that you can see that bench on street view? I'm still amazed that you can go inside museums with it.

So, it was closer to HMB than Pacifica. I'm glad I didn't lead you astray. I don't remember driving that far.

If you're planning on visiting, I hope you have a great time!
